Early detection is the best prevention against lung cancer. And now, there is a simple screening that can test for cancer before there are any symptoms. Lung cancer screening is simple, effective and can even reduce the risk of death by diagnosing cancer at a more treatable stage.
Is a lung cancer screening right for you? You may be a screening candidate if you:
- Are a current or former smoker
- Are between 55 – 77 years old
- Have no known history of lung cancer
- Have a smoking history of at least 30-pack years (one pack a day for 30 years, 2 packs a day for 15 years, etc.)
The risk for lung cancer is different for each person. If you do not meet these criteria, discuss the screening with your primary care provider.
A lung cancer screening may save your life, but there are minimal risks with a low-dose CT scan. Discuss this screening with your primary care physician to determine if it’s right for you.
Lovelace Medical Center now offers $99 low-dose CT scans for lung cancer screening. Some insurance plans may cover this expense.
To schedule your CT scan and see if you qualify for a no-cost CT scan, request a referral from your primary care physician and call 505.727.3162, or fill out the form below.
