Medical Oncology Services

Medical oncologists specialize in treating cancer.  Sometimes this is done through the use of chemotherapy, which is the use of medications to treat cancer by shrinking or eliminating the tumor. The medical oncologists at Lovelace treat patients with cancer and blood disorders who are 18 years old and above.

In addition to the services and programs listed below, our medical oncologists are dedicated to providing compassionate care and supporting adult patients with an individual treatment plan for their care.

  • Chemotherapy is the use of medications to treat cancer by shrinking or eliminating the cancerous tumor.
  • Clinical trials test new treatments in patients with cancer. These are also called cancer treatment or research studies and their purpose is to find better ways to treat cancer patients. You can find more information about our clinical trials here.
  • Hematology is the study of blood disorders. Many of these disorders are not malignant, or have a more favorable prognosis.
  • Laboratory work is completed in our office. Some tests will be sent off-site to a more comprehensive laboratory.
  • Medical oncology is the branch of medical science dealing with tumors, including the origin, development, diagnosis, and treatment of malignant neoplasms usually with chemotherapy.
  • Patient financial counseling can help patients access specific programs designed to provide financial assistance to help with the payment of out-of-pocket amounts for chemotherapy medications ---amounts such as deductibles, co-pays, and coinsurance. The financial counselor also utilizes cost-sharing Foundations to help those who are under-insured and Pharmaceutical Companies to provide assistance for the uninsured.
